The 2025 Emmys have found its emcee.
Comedian Nate Bargatze will host the 77th annual Emmy Awards, which are set to take place Sept. 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
“It’s a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show,” Nate said in a statement April 16, “and I’m beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world.”
The 46-year-old is no stranger to hosting duties as the two-time Saturday Night Live host most recently helming CBS’ special Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas back in December.
The celebrated stand up comic has also starred in six comedy specials including his most recent, Netflix’s Your Friend, Nate Bargatze, which also released in December.
“Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe,” Television Academy chair Cris Abrego said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be able to leverage his one-of-a-kind perspective to entertain TV fans watching this year’s Emmy telecast.”
Nate will succeed father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, who hosted the 2024 Emmys after having been asked previously to do the gig.
“We were asked before and it didn’t feel like the right time for whatever reason,” Dan told the LA Times in a joint interview with his dad published ahead of the ceremony. “Then we were asked again this year, and I think ran out of reasons not to do it. It seemed like a fun little challenge—not little, quite huge actually.”
“We were both obviously kind of nervous, because it’s kind of a tough thing to do,” Eugene added. “You’re letting yourself out there and whatever, whatever, is it worth it? We could coast into the fall quite easily without doing this and have a fun time watching it on TV. But I guess something was drawing us into it.”
Nate’s appointment as host of the 2025 Emmy Awards comes amid a hot streak for comedians hosting award shows: Nikki Glaser garnered rave reviews as host of the Golden Globes in January, while Conan O’Brien won praise for his hosting performance at the 2025 Oscars.
In fact, both of their performances went over so well that they’ve both already been asked to return as the respective hosts for next year’s ceremonies.
“Hosting the Golden Globes this year was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” Nikki told The Hollywood Reporter of the news in March. “I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from The White Lotus, who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in season four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.”
