Beyoncé’s Mom Tina Knowles Shares Rare Insight Into Bond With Her Grandkids

Watch:Tina Knowles Says She Was “Shocked” When Beyoncé Won Grammy for Album of the Year

Tina Knowles is a proud grandmother.

When it comes to her daughter Beyoncé and her three beautiful grandchildren Blue Ivy Carter, 13, and twins Rumi Carter and Sir Carter, 7—who the singer shares with husband Jay-Z—Tina just can’t contain her pride. And during the precious moments of quality time they get to spend together, she couldn’t help but see a bit of herself in them.

Indeed, she expressed that Blue Ivy—who performed alongside her mother at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show—resembles her in “her quest for creating things.”

“She’s always creating something and working with her hands and her mind,” Tina told E! News at the National CARES Mentoring Movement’s 10th Anniversary For the Love of Our Children Gala at the historic Edison Hotel. “She’s pretty amazing.”

But Blue Ivy isn’t the only one that has taken inspiration from the 35-time Grammy winner. In fact, Beyoncé featured her youngest daughter Rumi on her recent country album Cowboy Carter’s fourth song “Projector,” which came a decade after Blue Ivy was included in the song “Blue.”

“Oh, I’m so proud of Rumi,” the 71-year-old said of her granddaughter’s musical debut. “All of my grandchildren, all of them are amazing.”

However, Tina doesn’t necessarily foresee Rumi following in her mom’s footsteps to pursue a music career. When asked about the possibility, she simply responded, “I doubt it.”

“I hope not,” she added, “I hope she chooses something else.”

As for her grandson Sir? He prefers something a bit more lowkey: reading. And since he has such an affinity for books, Tina has a few go-to stories that she loves to read with him.

One, in particular, is an inspiring tale about “the smallest tree being the most powerful tree,” she explained to E!. “It ends up being the most powerful tree and saving the day, and he loves that book.”

For Tina—who is also mom to daughter Solange Knowles, 38, and grandmother to Daniel “Julez” Smith Jr., 20—family is everything. And she relishes being there for their biggest milestones, including when Beyoncé won Album of the Year for the first time at the 2025 Grammys.

“I was at her house,” Tina recalled on the Jennifer Hudson Show last month. “I was there to help she and Blue get ready. I just really was not expecting. I was really, really shocked. So shocked.”

“In fact,” she continued, “I sat there for a second and didn’t believe it was true. I was sitting there with my granddaughter Rumi and my grandson Sir, and for a second, we were just sitting there. I couldn’t believe it.”
