The Met Gala may have some competition.
Indeed, the Louvre Museum in Paris hosted its inaugural Le Grand Dîner du Louvre March 4, with fashion icons like Gigi Hadid, Keira Knightley and Anna Sawai to commemorate the glamourous event. It even got the seal of approval from the famed Met Gala chair herself as Anna Wintour also joined in on the festivities.
For her first day at Paris Fashion Week, Gigi looked especially stunning in a Moschino off-the-shoulder gown made from three neutral-colored dresses sewn together. When it came to color, Shogun star Anna stuck to the basics as well—but she more than made up with it in silhouette. The actress’ white Dior eyelet-lace gown featured a sheer corset and a detailed high-low, cage-like skirt.
Meanwhile, Keira opted for a bit of a darker color palette. For her part, the Pride & Prejudice actress donned a black peplum Chanel gown from its Fall 2024 collection. And if the silver embellishments along the corset weren’t enough to look at, she arrived with her husband James Righton rocking a classic black suit by her side.
Getting a little more creative with her look, Paris Jackson was the queen of avant-garde with a revealing Iris van Herpen gown made with fringe-like macramé that weaves across the bodice and flows down the sleeves. Wearing the same designer, former Victoria’s Secret angel Taylor Hill put a futuristic twist on her look with a superhero-eques naked dress, complete with a metal-like skeleton.
And then there are the classics like Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, who looked chic as ever in a white strong-shouldered Vetements gown that flowed so freely it nearly swallowed her up. As for the longtime Vogue editor, Anna, who has been co-chair of the Met Gala since 1995, donned a simple yet elegant white floral gown and black floor-length blazer.
As for what inspired the celebration of fashion in one of Paris’ most iconic and historic art museums? According to Olivier Gabet, director of the decorate arts department at the Louvre Museum, the goal was to celebrate the centuries-long intersection of art and fashion.
“Even if we are talking about haute couture and extravagant prices, fashion is part of today’s popular culture, of visual culture,” Olivier told Vogue in January. “Lots of people feel in phase with fashion, and this is a way of inviting them in and letting them discover that they’re in phase with the museum, too.”
