Oscars 2025: Wicked’s Jeff Goldblum Reveals Why Jonathan Bailey Is Missing the Award Show

Jonathan Bailey won’t be dancing through the 2025 Oscars ceremony.

In fact, as his Wicked costar Jeff Goldblum revealed during the award show’s red carpet, Jonathan is absent for a very good reason.

“He’s on stage right now in England, doing Richard II,” Jeff revealed to Zuri Hall during Live From E!: The Oscars. “He’s a masterful, eighth-degree black belt actor.”

He continued to gush, “I adore Jonathan Bailey. He’s great in our movie. What a great actor.”

The Jurassic Park alum also alluded to Jonathan’s next big movie move, as he follows in Jeff’s footsteps in the beloved franchise.

“He’s going to be in that dinosaur movie,” Jeff quipped. “I’ll be the first person in line to buy tickets. I’ll see it many times. And Scarlett Johansson is in that, too. It’s an all star lineup together.”

Jeff—who plays the Wizard in the Oscar-nominated Wicked—stepped onto the award show’s carpet in a Prada suit, complete with white jacket, floral shirt, purple scarf and black bowtie. He completed the ensemble with a purple orchid boutonnière. (See every star here.)

While Jeff isn’t nominated individually tonight, Wicked is heading into the ceremony with a whopping 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande as Glinda and Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

The two stars each channeled their characters on the carpet, Ariana in a pale pink, Schiaparelli SS25 Couture gown with an undulating hemline—reminiscent of Glinda’s bubble-mobile—and Cynthia in a deep green velvet gown with a dramatic neckline.

I feel wonderful in this,” Cynthia told Zuri of her look. “We worked on this for a little while, and wanted to have a nod to Oz, a nod to the green, and a nod to old Hollywood.”

The Tony Award winner continued, “It’s something I always wanted. I wanted a big dress at the Oscars, if I ever made it, and here we are.”
