Live from New York, it’s a historic reunion.

With five decades of Saturday Night Live’s cast members and hosts back to celebrate the 50th anniversary, it’s no surprise that Amy Poehler feels like she’s at her high school reunion.

“It’s like comedy high school,” she told NBC’s Willie Geist ahead of the SNL 50: The Anniversary Special Feb. 16. “We all grew up here. We’re having a lot of big feelings. It’s great to see everyone and it’s great to be back.”

While Amy—who was part of the cast from seasons 27 to 34—left in 2008, some things still feel the same when it comes to preparing for the show.

“Just like SNL, we’re really waiting until the last minute to figure everything,” she quipped. “I can’t believe we have to do a show.”

But some other aspects are very different for tonight than the SNL programming. She added, “We usually don’t have a red carpet before our show!”

With the anniversary event honoring the best and brightest, it’s only fitting that Amy reflected on what sketches fans recall when they meet her.

Along with the “Bronx Beat” sketch starring Maya Rudolph, the Parks and Reaction alum shared that she’s often recognized for her and Tina Fey’s Weekend Update segment.

Amy added, “Every once in a while, people throw out a really deep cut, which is fun too.”

And the 53-year-old couldn’t have asked for a better ensemble. In fact, she and Tina are still best friends.

“I think it’s rare and wonderful to meet somebody who’s your friend who also works the same way that you do,” Amy told Today of their friendship in 2021. “We kind of trained at the same places and work the same way it’s so easy.”

“We share a very similar vocabulary,” she said of Tina, who she has kicked off the Golden Globes with multiple times, “especially when you’re about to go do the Golden Globes or about to do live television for the first time or you’re trying something new it feels really good to have somebody who knows your timing, your rhythm.”
