Donald Trump has done some redecorating.
Less than a month after the 47th president was sworn in, some of the new artwork now inside the West Wing have been revealed—including a framed photo of his infamous August 2023 mugshot hanging just outside the Oval Office.
The mugshot (framed in an ornate gold frame) could be seen in the background of a photo taken during Trump’s Feb. 13 meeting with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
In the photo, Trump is dressed in a suit with a white shirt and red tie, smizing at the camera in front of a black background. Although he had been indicted three times before that year for charges including falsifying business records, conspiracy related to Jan. 6, and willful retention of national defense information, Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail—where he faced charges including making false statements and writings as well as violating Violation of the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act for working to overturn the 2020 election results in Fulton County—was the only to require him to pose for a mug shot.
His nod to his booking isn’t the first time Trump has publicly addressed his alleged crimes—for which he has maintained his innocence.
Trump, who successfully ran against then-Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, began using the mugshot on his most recent campaign merchandise, selling koozies, T-shirts, mugs and more with the photo, along with phrases like “Never Surrender!” and “Not Guilty!”
As for his legal battles, Trump—who had pleaded not guilty—was ultimately convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records relating to the hush money case involving adult film star Stormy Daniels last May and was ultimately sentenced to unconditional discharge in January. However, following his victory in the 2024 election the respective cases into classified documents and charges related to Jan. 6 were dismissed.
In Georgia, Trump originally faced 13 charges related to alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in the state—where he lost his re-election bid to Joe Biden—but it has since been reduced after a Georgia judge tossed three charges in September. Attorneys for Trump, who has pleaded not guilty in the case, have moved to dismiss the charges. Meanwhile, the case remains indefinitely paused amid his presidency in pertaining to District Attorney Fani Willis’ role in the case. (In December she was barred from participating in the case due to an appearance of impropriety over a relationship with a special prosecutor working for the case, though she has appealed the ruling.)
Following his fourth indictment, the 78-year-old—who had been released on a $200,000 bond after the photo was taken—detailed his experience being booked shortly after his mugshot was publicly released.
“I came in, I was treated very nicely,” Trump told Newsmax at the time. “But it is what it is. I took a mug shot.”
But he didn’t hold back on maintaining his qualms with the situation, either.
“I never heard the words ‘mug shot’; that wasn’t—they didn’t teach me that at the Wharton School of Finance,” Trump continued. “It’s a very sad experience, and it’s a very sad day.”
