South Park‘s newest target: Fake AI videos and revenge porn.
The Comedy Central hit series is seemingly shifting away from politics for a new season 28 episode dropping on Wednesday.
In the just-released promo (watch it below) and description for the episode, the episode is apparently about how “Butters’ Al revenge plan backfires, igniting an epidemic of fake videos at school that leaves Detective Harris struggling to tell fantasy from reality.”
The episode is titled “Sora Not Sorry” and comes a few weeks after fans began using the AI video generator Sora 2 to make fake South Park episodes. The company reportedly responded by banning users from using its product to replicate South Park content.
In the promo clip, Kyle scolds Butters, “You shouldn’t be using AI to make revenge porn Butters, that will totally backfire!” Butters skeptically replies, “Eh, what will happen?” The promo then cuts to a trio of horrified classmates looking at a phone saying, “You should go tell the principal.”
The promo follows South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone defending the season’s heavy steer into politics, telling The New York Times, “It’s not that we got all political,” Parker said. “It’s that politics became pop culture.” With Stone adding: “Trey and I are attracted to [what is considered taboo] like flies to honey. Oh, that’s where the taboo is? Over there? OK, then we’re over there … we just had to show our independence somehow.”
The new episode will premiere Wednesday at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central and then will be available to stream on Paramount+. The following episode will be available on Dec. 10.
