Louie Provost Joins Sony Pictures as Exec VP of Production (Exclusive)

Sony Pictures has hired veteran production executive Louie Provost as executive vp of production.

Provost is best known for his 15-plus year tenure at Walt Disney Studios, where one of the last projects he oversaw was Lilo & Stitch, the live-action remake of the studio’s animated movie and which has become the year’s biggest grossing movie, earning more than $1 billion at the global box office.

Working successfully in the family and franchise sphere, he also oversaw the $1 billion hit Aladdin, the Emmy Award winning Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, the fondly-regarded The Muppets, the big-budget Maleficent and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and the personal Pete’s Dragon.

“We’re excited to welcome Louie to the Columbia family,” said Peter Kang, the newly promoted president of production at Sony division Columbia Pictures. “I met him early in his career and watched as he championed films that became global phenomena — delivering big movie moments filled with heart. As we strive to find stories and characters that audiences will seek out on the big screen, we know Louie will make an immediate and lasting impact.”

Provost joined Disney in 2007 as an assistant to then-president of production Oren Aviv. He climbed the production and development ranks, making it to The Hollywood Reporter’s Next Gen list in 2015.
