It looks like Snoop Dogg‘s granddaughter Codi has got his spirit.
Despite being born premature in February, the baby girl is “so feisty,” according to the rapper’s daughter Cori Broadus, who gave birth six months into her pregnancy.
“She’s so resilient and strong,” Cori, who shares Codi with fiancé Wayne Deuce,told Us Weekly in an interview published Sept. 16. “She just has so much character.”
In fact, the 26-year-old said that doctors and nurses in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) often tell her, “‘Your baby got her mind. She’s smart. She’s alert. She knows what’s going on. She can hear. She can see.'”
Cori added of her daughter, “That girl is just a sweet little firecracker.”
Still, Codi’s first few weeks were a roller coaster of emotions for Cori. As she put it, “The NICU is a different type of experience.”
“It’s not an easy place to be, but the support is amazing,” Cori continued, explaining how the staffers there often comforted her when she was feeling anxious about Codi. “They’re like, ‘What are you [apologizing] for? This is normal. If you wasn’t crying, we would be worried.'”
Looking back at her own health journey, Cori—who previously suffered a stroke at age 24—quipped that she’s “lived more than most.” That’s why she considers Codi to be her “surprise miracle baby.”
“Doctors told me I could never have a baby. Yet she’s here,” the Choc Factory founder shared. “She’s so beautiful, and I just love her.”
Cori continued, “Everybody’s plan looks a little different. Our journey home just looks a little different than the next baby and so forth.”
And the mother-daughter duo have a strong support system behind them. As Snoop told E! News in April, “What we try to do is keep love in the air seven days a week.”
“No matter if it’s Mother’s Day or not,” the Voice coach (real name Calvin Broadus Jr.) added, “we always got love in there.”
