Table tennis is about to take over New York City.
Airbnb is hosting the “Marty Supreme Invitational” on Dec. 17 at a secret Lower East Side location where guests can compete in an exclusive table tennis tournament celebrating the upcoming Timothée Chalamet film Marty Supreme.
Guests will be immersed in a members-only table tennis gymnasium: arriving after hours, heading through the locker room and preparing to play. According to Airbnb, the referee is a New York table tennis “legend.” Top players will move through the bracket, while eliminated players will join the crowd for the final match.
Registration for the Marty Supreme Invitational opens Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. PT at airbnb.com/martysupreme and closes Dec. 4 at 9 a.m. PT. Participation is free, with only 24 guests selected.
A24’s Marty Supreme is set in the 1952 Lower East Side (with filming on Orchard Street in October 2024) and stars Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a confident born hustler pursuing global table tennis glory. The character is loosely inspired by real-life table tennis legend Marty Reisman.
In Chalamet’s first interview about the film, he told The Hollywood Reporter that he trained for years to perfect his ping-pong skills — even while working on other films. “I had a table in London while I was making Wonka. On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi. I had a table at the Cannes Film Festival for The French Dispatch. I got myself an Airbnb in a town around Saint-Tropez after The French Dispatch, overlooking the water, and I was taking lessons there,” he said.
The film is directed by Josh Safdie, marking his first solo feature without brother and collaborator Benny since 2008. The cast also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, The Creator, Odessa A’zion and Kevin O’Leary.
Marty Supreme arrives in theaters on Christmas Day.
