Emily Bader and Tom Blyth Are Travel Friends With Romantic Tension in Netflix’s ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ Official Trailer

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the anticipated adaptation of Emily Henry’s bestseller, People We Meet on Vacation.

In the official trailer released Tuesday, Emily Bader and Tom Blyth star as free-spirit Poppy and routine-devoted Alex, two best friends who spend every summer vacation together. Though an unlikely duo due to their differences, their friendship is soon put to the test when they begin to question “could they actually be the perfect romantic match?”

Throughout the trailer, Bader and Blyth embark on various adventures as they travel the world. At one point, the two almost embrace for a kiss, before Blyth’s Alex pulls away asking, “What am I to you?”

“You’re my friend. My best friend,” Bader’s Poppy emotionally says.

Later on, Alex and Poppy are seen being with other people as Alex tells her that she lives in a “fantasy land. Always running away to new places, new connections.”

The trailer ends with the friends staring at each other in the rain, giving peak rom-com movie moment.

The film is directed by Brett Haley from a screenplay from Yulin Kuang and Amos Vernon & Nunzio Randazzo.

The novel People We Meet on Vacation was released in 2021 by Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, debuting at No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list and having sold more than two million copies in the U.S. In the book, Henry chronicles a slow-burn, friends-to-lovers romance with lots of fun travels.

Netflix revealed the first teaser for the anticipated film in September.

Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, Miles Heizer, Jameela Jamil, Tommy Do, Lukas Gage, Alice Lee, Molly Shannon and Alan Ruck also star.

People We Meet on Vacation is just one of the novels from the Henry book universe getting the adaptation treatment. Three of her other novels are in development to become films — Beach Read, Book Lovers and Funny Story — while her book Happy Place is going to be a series on Netflix.

The film will premiere on Netflix on Jan. 9.
