Teyana Taylor Says She and Jessie Buckley FaceTimed After 2026 Oscar Nominations

On the heels of her Golden Globe win, One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor scored her first Oscar nomination Thursday in the supporting actress category.

“I am still processing. I am in shock,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter on a call shortly after learning about her nod. The actor and singer is on her way to Saturday Night Live as she chats, prepping to host this coming weekend. She jokes that her voice is in rough shape because she and team were “screaming and hollering” at the top of their lungs.

In addition to her already successful awards campaign for One Battle After Another, Taylor has managed to grab a Grammy nomination for her album, which was released last year. It’s not lost on the performer that all of these accolades are coming at the same time.

“It takes me back to when I first retired from music because I felt like they were trying to box me in, and I remember nobody believing me when I told them that I could do it all,” she says.

“I consider myself a Glade plugin. Why only be plugged in the bathroom when you can make the whole house smell good?” she continues. “The fact that everything is happening at once — being nominated for a Grammy for my album and nominated for Oscar for acting and winning a Golden Globe, it just is a testament of really standing ten toes down on your dreams”

Taylor also shared that she spoke to fellow nominee, Hamnet star Jessie Buckley this morning after they learned about their Oscar nominations. “[She] texted me, and we got on FaceTime,” the actress says.

“We both were on FaceTime, just screaming. She’s like, ‘I’m so proud of you.’ I’m like, ‘I’m so proud of you,’” she recalls. “It feels good to just all be so proud of one another.”

Overall, Taylor says she fells “very, very, very, very” happy and grateful for the nomination and the opportunities that have come her way over the last year. “I bet on myself in a time where nobody could believe that a person can be in more than one box,” she says. “I feel like we all should give ourselves more grace.”
