All the Emmys 2025 Snubs and Surprises: Adolescence, Katherine Lanasa, Cristin Milioti and More

That’s a wrap on the 2025 Emmys.

As for who walked away the biggest winner Sept. 14? That would be Apple TV+’s The Studio with 13 wins, including a victory for Seth Rogen for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The Penguin followed with nine wins then Severance and Adolescence with eight apiece. Plus, Adolescence’s Owen Cooper, made history not only as the youngest winner in his category, but also as the youngest ever male Emmy Award winner at age 15.

But, like always, there are the usual perceived snubs and surprises among the list of winners.

Pleasant surprises included wins for Somebody Somewhere’s Jeff Hiller and The Pitt’s Katherine LaNasa, who won for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Drama Series respectively.

As a shocked Jeff—who beat out the likes of Harrison Ford, Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo and Bowen Yang—shared during his acceptance speech, “I feel like I’m going to cry, because for the past 25 years I have been like, world, I want to be an actor! And the world was like, maybe computers.”

“I just want to say thank you to HBO,” he continued, “for putting a show about sweaty middle-aged people on the same network as the sexy teens of Euphoria.”

Two more surprises were The Penguin’sCristin Milioti—whose work beat that of Cate Blanchette, Meghann Fahy, Rashida Jones and Michelle Williams—as well as Adolescence’s Stephen Graham, who emerged the winner against fellow nominees Colin Farrell, Jake Gyllenhaal, Bryan Tyree Henry and Cooper Koch.

Then there was Lead Actress in a Drama Series, an award many believed Matlock’s Kathy Bates had in the bag. But, in the end, Severance’s Britt Lower won for her impressive work as both Helly R. and Helena Eagan in the HBO series.

And while Severance led this year’s nominations with 27, the series ultimately was snubbed with only two awards including for Britt and a Supporting Actor for Tramell Tillman as Milchik. (The drama also won six awards at the Creative Arts Emmys days earlier.)

Plus, both The White Lotus and The Bear were completely shut out of this year’s awards, despite earning 23 and 13 nods apiece and being dominating forces at the Emmys in years past.

Instead, The Pitt emerged as an unlikely but deserving winner, earning five awards throughout the evening. In addition to Katherine’s, the medical series won for Outstanding Drama Series and for leading man Noah Wyle’swork as Dr. Michael Robinavitch.

The ER alum, naturally, used part of his speech to honor the world’s healthcare workers. “To anyone who’s going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job,” Noah said onstage. “This is for you.”
