Jason Isaacs knows his White Lotus character’s family may have checked out when it comes to support.
Indeed, while Timothy Ratliff’s family may not know he almost tried to kill them in Thailand to avoid coming clean about their financial turmoil, without the money the actor behind the patriarch—who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmys—simply doesn’t see a world where his wife Victoria Ratliff (Parker Posey) could stand by him.
“Oh, I don’t know,” Jason, 62, exclusively told Live From E!: 2025 Emmys correspondent Heather McMahan at the Sept. 14 ceremony. “It depends on how much she wants to come and visit me in prison and smuggle things in her body parts.”
During season three of the series—nominated for a grand total of 23 awards—Timothy constantly contemplated suicide as he kept the massive secret from Victoria and their children Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola) during their stay at the luxurious resort. (With the secrets and Timothy’s increased desperation nearly costing his youngest son’s life.)
For Jason, it was ultimately easy to stay in character as the unhappy finance exec due to the sweltering heat on location in Thailand.
“It was pretending that you were somewhere on a glorious vacation, when in fact you’re in a sauna where there’s 40 sweaty men with tattoos covering your life,” he quipped. “But also, I’m playing a guy who was so depressed and so panicked and on the abyss of utter meltdown and suicidal at times, that I had to get myself miserable. I don’t like being miserable.”
“I was miserable all the time playing him,” Jason added. “But it was delightful when I wasn’t playing him.”
As for turning it off when he wasn’t on camera, the Harry Potter star revealed who kept him in line and helped him break character.
“My wife was there,” he explained to Heather of his partner of 24 years Emma Hewitt. “She wouldn’t put up with any nonsense for two seconds.”
And while Jason’s character’s fate is uncertain, fans have high hopes that Victoria will make it into the upcoming fourth season, which Parker revealed to Live From E!: 2025 Emmys would be set in the south of France.
And though only a few characters have checked back in for more, the Best in Show alum isn’t convinced she’s one of the lucky ones, adding, “I have no idea if I’m in it.”
