Emmys 2025: Boys & Girls CEO Reacts to Nate Bargatze’s $350,000 Donation

Nate Bargatze’s Emmys bit resulted in a big payout.

The host’s ruse to get winners to keep their speeches short—promising to donate $100k to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, but threatening to take away $1,000 for every speech that went over—may not have panned out, with the total in the negatives by the end of the evening. However, Nate had a backup plan: he confirmed onstage that CBS would be donating $100k to the organization, and that he’d personally put in $250k.

The $350k result, according to President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Jim Clark, was “incredible.”

“Our heartfelt thanks to Nate Bargatze, CBS, and the Emmy Awards team for supporting Boys & Girls Clubs in such a big way,” he continued in a statement shared with E! News. “It was a true honor for our Club Kids to share the stage with the night’s winners, especially knowing some of our alumni have gone on to become Emmy winners themselves.”

And indeed, after Nate announced his ploy onstage, the camera cut to Boys & Girls Club alum JB Smoove, who was seated in the audience with two young members of the organization.

Jim added, “We are also deeply grateful to all who kept their speeches short in the spirit of this fun challenge and to maximize the impact for our young people. The generous $350,000 donation from CBS and Nate is a powerful investment in the dreams and great futures of millions of young people nationwide.”

The bit was a fun one throughout the ceremony, with Emmy winner Hannah Einbinder even promising to donate the difference when her speech ran long.

John Oliver, meanwhile—who gave one of the shortest speeches of the evening, in response to Nate’s promise to add money back in for speeches under 45 seconds—reserved some of his time to call the comedian out.

“F–k you Nate Bargatze, that is a lot of money for you,” he quipped from stage, “and you can add a f–k to the swear jar as well.”

But despite the best intentions of many winners throughout the evening, the allotted time ran out quickly and indeed, by the close of the Sept. 14 ceremony the total was in the red at negative $60k.

As Nate quipped onstage, before revealing the donation’s actual total, “This night has been great for me. Honestly, I think I’ve made money.”
