And the Emmy goes to…
The 2025 Emmy Awards kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 14, meaning your favorite television actors and creators were all together in one room to celebrate TV’s biggest night.
Hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze and held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the annual ceremony handed out coveted trophies to this year’s buzziest performances and most critically acclaimed series. (See every star on the red carpet here.)
As for who took home the very first trophy?
The Studio‘s Seth Rogen nabbed the night’s first honor, winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy.
“Wow, this is amazing,” the actor began his acceptance speech in disbelief. “I so could not wrap my head around this happening that I literally prepared nothing. I’ve never won anything in my life. When I was a kid I bought a used bowling trophy at an estate sale, and my parents were like, ‘Yeah, that’s a good idea. You should probably buy that.'”
And while Rogen may not have written a speech beforehand, he definitely knew who to shout out.
“Thank you to my wife, my mother, everyone who works on the show, my agent, my managers, the writers,” he added. “This is so nice! Thank you. I appreciate you all.”
As for who else took home a trophy?
Hacks leads Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder celebrated their wins together after taking home honors for Lead Actress in a Comedy and Supporting Actress in a Comedy, respectively. And, much like her character Deborah Vance, Smart came out hard-hitting with the jokes.
“If I was walking like John Wayne,” she began her acceptance speech, “it’s because I broke my knee this summer and it’s not quite repaired.”
Meanwhile, Adolescence also nabbed multiple trophies, with one of its stars making history with their acting win.
But did The White Lotus win any hardware for its stellar third season? And did the most-nominated show of the night Severace get honored in any of the many categories it was nominated in? Plus, which hit shows won Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series?
