Paradise is traveling up above in season two.

The twisty post-apocalyptic hit drama from Dan Fogelman ended on a major cliffhanger and when season two returns, the series will be trekking ahead with the This Is Us creator’s three-season master plan to expand the world of Paradise.

When the mystery show returns Feb. 23 — with three episodes, followed by new episodes weekly on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ — Sterling K. Brown‘s starring character, Xavier Collins, will have ventured outside of the show’s central bunker to what’s left of the world above, where he’s on a mission to find the wife who he thought had died, Teri (Enuka Okuma). The show’s villain Sinatra (Julianne Nicholson) had informed Xavier in season one that when the world went nearly extinct — and forced his surviving family and others into the bunker city called Paradise — his wife was actually not among the victims, despite what he had thought.

The news that anyone could have survived season one’s apparent nuclear blast sends Xavier out on a mission in season two, where he connects with another survivor played by new castmember Shailene Woodley.

Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Krys Marshall, Aliyah Mastin, Percy Daggs IV, Charlie Evans and Thomas Doherty round out the cast. Meanwhile, James Marsden, who played the deceased President of the United States Cal Bradford, returns, along with the deceased Billy who was played by Jon Beavers, in guest roles.

Here’s the season two synopsis: “Xavier searches for Teri out in the world and learns how people survived the three years since The Day. Back in Paradise, the social fabric frays as the bunker deals with the aftermath of season one, and new secrets are uncovered about the city’s origins.”

When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter after the season one finale, Fogelman explained of the series, “We have this very precise three-year plan, and this next season coming is kind of the middle episode of our trilogy with also its own beginning, middle and end. We have a three-season story that’s bigger than what people think it is right now, and it’s going to span a couple of genres.”

Paradise is created and executive produced by Fogelman. Jess Rosenthal, John Hoberg, Brown, Steve Beers, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The series is a 20th Television production.
