Kong and Godzilla Unite to Fight Savage Titan X in ’Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Season 2 Trailer

An epic battle is set for season two of Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

The streamer debuted a trailer today for the new batch of episodes that drop Feb. 27, starting with the first episode followed by one every Friday through May 1. As previously announced, season two picks up as the fate of Monarch — and the world — hangs in the balance.

The trailer finds Anna Sawai’s Cate Randa reflecting on the gravity of opening the rift. “I pressed the button,” she says, “I let the genie out of the bottle.” It’s safe to say that the genie is not the wish granting kind but instead a mythical Titan which rises from the sea intent on destroying everything in its path. The ominous tone continues as Kurt Russell’s Lee Shaw questions, “What’s next?” Joe Tippet’s Tom has the answer: “Consequences.”

That leads to a dramatic twist as Shaw concludes that in order to destroy a monster, it will take another monster — or two. “We need Kong. And Godzilla,” he says. Cue an epic battle that will find the two villains uniting to fight the creature that becomes known as Titan X, which is not just a monster but “a living cataclysm,” per Apple.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters stars Russell and real-life son Wyatt Russell opposite Sawai, Tippett, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto and Anders Holm. Season two guest stars include Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper and Camilo Jiménez Varón. The trailer dropped Tuesday during Apple TV’s press day held at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar where cast members and the creative team united for a panel discussion.

Legendary Television’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is executive produced by Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, alongside Chris Black, Jen Roskind, Matt Shakman, and Lawrence Trilling, who directs four episodes, as well as Andrew Colville, who writes two episodes and serves as executive producer. Black is showrunner for season two. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character.

Apple TV has a multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which includes the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and multiple spinoffs, some of which are in the works. In December, the streamer confirmed it was moving forward with a prequel series focused on young Col. Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell in both shows. Joby Harold will showrun the new series under an overall deal with Legendary. Harold oversees the entire Monsterverse franchise as it pertains to Apple TV. He executive produces Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Meanwhile, Legendary’s Monsterverse has more projects on the horizon with the anticipated sequel Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, set for release in 2027. The first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is now streaming on Apple TV. See more views inside the show below.
