Succession’s Brian Cox Suffers NSFW Kilt Wardrobe Malfunction Onstage at TIFF 2025

Watch:Brian Cox Admits His True Feelings About The End of ‘Succession’

Brian Cox showed a little more than he bargained for at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival.

The Succession alum had an NSFW wardrobe malfunction while sporting a kilt to the premiere of his directorial debut Glenrothan on Sept. 11.

For the outing, Cox walked the red carpet in black tartan Scottish pleated skirt with a matching blazer and a vest. To top off his ensemble, he rocked brown-lensed sunglasses and a pair of knee-high boots.

And his fashion statement was turning heads for all the right reasons until he stepped on stage for the Q&A portion of the film’s premiere, during which Cox accidentally showed off his—er—precious jewels while sitting in front of the crowd with his legs wide.

When the racy blunder was called out by an audience member, the 79-year-old quipped to the crowd, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Is it that bad? Or that good?”

Cox zipped his legs up right after, though he made it clear he wasn’t going to let the snafu get him down.

“You have to wear the kilt the proper way,” he joked about leaving little to the imagination with his wardrobe. “The kilt is designed to make you cool and free. And it’s a f–king wonderful freedom.”

Of course, Cox wasn’t only wearing a kilt to the screening for comfort. The clothing piece was also an ode to his family drama Glenrothan, which centers on two estranged brothers who reunite in their homeland, the rural highlands of Scotland.

However, Cox—who, in addition to directing, stars in the movie alongside Alan Cumming—insisted that paying tribute to the themes of the story with his fashion wasn’t his idea initially.

“Whose idea was it to wear these f–king kilts?” he jokingly asked at one point during the screening. “Certainly not my idea. It was the producer’s idea. They always try to f–k you up, at the end of the day. They can be so vengeful sometimes.”
