Luke Thompson as a smitten Benedict Bridgerton over finding true love with Yerin Ha as maid Sophie Baek dominates the Bridgerton season four, Part 2 trailer that dropped on Friday.
After Part 1 climaxed with Benedict and Sophie’s romantic embrace in a Bridgerton house stairwell, their Cinderella-inspired love story runs into the reality of the regency era’s rigid class system in the forthcoming final four episodes of season four. Benedict may have to risk his family position and privilege in the Ton to land Sophie, a masked servant he met at a masquerade ball.
“I’ve had quite enough of the demands of society!” an exasperated Benedict exclaims at one point in the teaser below, as he faces being ostracized from society and his family to find true love.
“Whatever you choose, you must live with it forever,” matriarch Lady Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell, warns in a voice over.
When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter after Part 1, showrunner Jess Brownell said Part 1 was a “willing suspension of disbelief,” and that even though Benedict “thinks of himself as being pretty progressive, he would never expect a maid to have been at a ball. It wouldn’t make sense, and it’s something he’s going to have to answer for in [Part 2], that he wasn’t able to recognize her. If part one is really about the fantasy, part two is in many ways the reality section of the season.”
Bridgerton fans are soon to learn whether fate will ultimately bring Benedict and Sophie together, after much breathless longing and yearning, or whether the upstairs/downstairs reality of the Bridgerton house will keep them apart when Part 2 releases on Feb. 26.
The season four cast includes Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton), Victor Alli (Lord John Stirling), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Julie Andrews (Lady Whistledown), Lorraine Ashbourne (Mrs. Varley), Masali Baduza (Michaela Stirling), Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Bridgerton), Hannah Dodd (Francesca Stirling), Daniel Francis (Lord Marcus Anderson), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton), Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich), Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton), Polly Walker (Portia Featherington), Emma Naomi (Alice Mondrich) and Hugh Sachs (Brimsley).
Part 2 of the fourth season of the Shonda Rhimes-created hit period drama will return on Netflix on Feb. 26. Each part of the fourth season consists of four episodes.
