The scream queens are back.
ReginaHall and Anna Faris will reprise their iconic roles in the upcoming Scary Movie reboot, the actresses confirmed. The duo appeared in the first four installments of the horror-comedy franchise as their beloved characters Brenda and Cindy, respectively, and will return in the same roles.
“We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon,” the stars said in a joint statement to Deadline published August 15, “three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again.)”
E! News has reached out to Regina and Anna for comment, but has yet to hear back.
As they alluded to, Regina’s character has been killed in several Scary Movie films only to be brought back without explanation in the subsequent sequel, so Brenda returning for a sixth film is in line with previous installments. Meanwhile, Anna’s character Cindy hasn’t been killed in any of the previous Scary Movie films.
Ahead of the actresses confirming their joint return to the franchise, writer and creator Marlon Wayans had teased the news by posting a still of Regina and Anna on set of one of the early films to Instagram August 15 and captioning it with simply the eyes emoji and “SM6.”
Marlon and his brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans will reunite for the first time in 18 years for the sixth Scary Movie film, which is set to be released June 12, 2026, per Variety. All three brothers had originally developed the franchise and wrote the first two films, with Keenen also serving as director and Shawn and Marlon also starring in them.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,” they told Deadline in a statement last October. “This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”
