Trump Gloats About Melania Trump’s “Movie Star” Status Following Her Doc’s Opening Week Box Office Success

Amid Melania becoming the greatest debut for a documentary in a decade, President Donald Trump is admittedly proud of his wife becoming a “big movie star.”

During the Board of Peace event held in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, the president raved about Melania Trump’s documentary, citing its opening box office success. “She has a very successful movie out right now, like number one. Can you believe this?” he said.

Melania opened to $7.2 million during its first week, marking the highest launch for a doc in a decade. However, Trump noted that he isn’t sure there’s “room in one family for two stars” given her newfound status as a “big movie star.”

“Big movie star, and I always say it’s trouble, because I always say there’s not room in one family for two stars,” Trump said. “I told her we can’t have two stars in one family, so I don’t know what that means, but it’s not good. But it is good because we’re proud of her.”

The doc opened on Jan. 30 and fell off 67 percent in its second week run, earning $2.4 million. Now, heading into its fourth week, Melania is at a total gross of 15.8 million. Despite its initial record-breaking status, reviews have been split.

Melania is directed by Brett Ratner and backed by Amazon MGM Studios. The project chronicled the 20 days ahead of Trump’s second inauguration, and is also speculated to be the most expensive doc ever made, as Amazon MGM Studios paid $40 million for worldwide licensing rights and reportedly spent another $35 million on a global marketing campaign.

“I believe the Americans and people all over the world should witness the incredible amount of planning and work required when shifting from private citizen to first lady,” Melania told THR of the doc. “I take pride in every detail.”

Trump continued of Melania‘s accomplishments on Thursday, “People in the United States love the first lady. She did the movie and it’s become the biggest-selling documentary in 20 years, can you believe? The theaters are all packed. Women, especially, they go back and they see it two or three times, four times.”

An official streaming date for the project has not yet been unveiled, though it will find its home on Amazon Prime.
