Why Taylor Swift Really Hid in Cleaning Carts During Eras Tour

This tortured poet is scribbling out her musical secrets.

Taylor Swift reflected on certain visual aspects that appeared on her record-breaking Eras Tour, including her decision to hide in cleaning carts between transitions.

“That’s my type of weird idea,” Taylor, 35, told Jason Kelce and boyfriend Travis Kelce during the Aug. 13 episode of their New Heights podcast. “When you’re putting on a first show of a tour like that, you’re not just performing for the entire stadium. You’re performing for the entire internet, and I wanted to curate and romanticize the images they were seeing first.”

Indeed, the “Fortnight” singer included a lot of stunning details into each show. Besides the lengthy setlist (which spanned across all 10 of her albums), Taylor introduced each era through her outfits, such as her red diamond-covered bodysuit for Reputation or her pastel gown for Enchanted.

And with this strategy, she didn’t want to “give away” the order of her setlist.

“When I’m walking up the ramp behind the stage, there’s all these fans seated behind the stage at certain angles where they would have been able to film it,” she explained of the tour, which ended last December. “I didn’t want that to be the first thing people saw from the Eras Tour.”

Though the cart feels like an unconventional form of transportation, she revealed that she was comfortable riding in it.

“I kinda thought I might only do it for night one, and then I just got attached to it. I was like, ‘I find this fun,’” she joked. “There’s a weird little side of me that likes sneaking around.”

And when Taylorwho recently announced her upcoming album, Life of a Showgirl, on the podcast—wasn’t focused on spoiling her setlist, she wanted to leave a lasting impression on the Swifties. In fact, the Midnights star wanted the nearly four-hour show to feel dizzying—in the best way possible.

“I wanted to do it at the highest intensity, rapid fire, you’re seeing something new, every 15 to 30 seconds so it feels like you’re scrolling in an algorithm,” she explained. “When I heard reports of people saying that they got actual amnesia after the concerts? I was like, ‘Oh, I think we did it. I think we nailed it.’”
