Julianne Hough wasn’t feeling the rhythm of this dating rumor.
Dancing With the Stars co-host recently reflected on her early years on the competition series, revealing the wild moment where fans believed she was married to her brother Derek Hough.
“Our first thing that we ever did onDancing with the Stars was the live tour,” Julianne, 37, recalled in the Sept. 5 episode of the Chicks in the Office podcast. “Carrie Ann [Inaba] was the one who choreographed everything, and she got us to do a rumba together. You guys, that’s the dance of love that my brother and I had to dance together.”
Indeed, the rumba is a passionate form of ballroom dancing. And while Julianne and Derek, 40—who both debuted on the dance competition series in 2007—haveaced every dance numberthey’ve performed together, viewers thought this specific concept was too intimate for the sibling duo.
“Our names in the program were ‘Derek and Julianne Hough,’ so everybody thought we were married and were doing this rumba,” she continued, laughing at the memory. “When people found out we were brother and sister? I remember there was one venue, and we just heard, ‘That’s just wrong!’”
Despite the embarrassing moment, the Footloose star revealed that Carrie Ann apologized for coordinating this dance routine for them.
Though the sibling dancers no longer compete on the DWTS, they’re still involved in the long-running competition show. Julianne has been cohosting the dance series with Alfonso Ribeiro since 2023, while Derek—who’s expecting his first baby with wife and DWTS alum Hayley Erbert—now has a seat alongside Carrie Ann and Bruno Tonioli on the judging panel.
“It’s really cool that we get to do similar things in our own way,” she explained. “We’re definitely unique, [but] we’re cut from the same cloth, so there’s a lot of similar energy, but we’re very different.”
As for Julianne’s chemistry on the dance floor, this isn’t the first time viewers have shipped her with her former dance partners. In fact, she recently debunked rumors that she and season four partner,Apolo Ohno, were an item.
“I remember being on the show and it was like a whole new universe,” the Burlesque star explained on Owen Thiele’s In Your Dreams podcast in June. “There’s the whole thing where everybody finds love or hook up on the show. Everybody thought I was hooking up with my partner Apolo. Never in a million years.”

“I told a lie when I was 34 years old and it was the biggest mistake of my life. It just got bigger and bigger and bigger and got buried deeper and deeper inside me,” Elisabeth told The Ankler newsletter Dec. 7, adding, “I’ve never had any form of cancer.”
Summed up Finch, who was placed on administrative leave from the ABC medical drama before eventually resigning, said, “What I did was wrong. Not okay. F–ked up. All the words.”

Telling The New York Times the lengths she would go to for a more youthful appearance, the reality star cracked that she was willing to try just about anything.
“If you told me that I literally had to eat poop every single day and I would look younger, I might,” she said in June. “I just might.”
In a July 2022 interview with Allure, Kim said she was “kind of joking” about the comment, though the idea didn’t seem too terrible.
“But now that I think about it,” Kim added, “I would probably eat s–t if someone told me, ‘If you eat this bowl of poop every single day, you’ll look younger.'”
How much could she make room for? “Maybe just a bite,” she told the outlet. “I don’t think I can do a whole bowl.”
