Joel Edgerton, Felicity Jones Adjust to a Risky Logging Life in Netflix’s ‘Train Dreams’ Trailer

Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones navigate their changing lives at the start of the 20th century in the full trailer for the Netflix feature Train Dreams.

Writer-director Clint Bentley‘s movie hits theaters Nov. 7 before it begins streaming Nov. 21. Kerry Condon and William H. Macy also star in the film that premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and also screened at last month’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Train Dreams stars Edgerton as Robert Grainier, a logger in the Pacific Northwest who seeks to balance caring for his family amid pursuing a living on the burgeoning railroad system.

“I didn’t think you’d be home this soon,” Jones tells Edgerton in the trailer. He replies, “I just couldn’t stop walking until I got here.”

Bentley (Jockey) helmed the film from a script he wrote with Greg Kwedar that is based on author Denis Johnson’s 2011 novella. Bentley and Kwedar previously worked on the screenplay for Sing Sing, which earned them an Oscar nomination.

Producers for Train Dreams include Marissa McMahon, Teddy Schwarzman, Will Janowitz, Ashley Schlaifer and Michael Heimler. Edgerton, Kwedar, John Friedberg and Scott Hinckley serve as executive producers.

In his review of Train Dreams for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney wrote, “The cumulative weight of all those moments that make up an ordinary life is the subject of this elegiac macro-miniaturist portrait of an itinerant worker in the early 1900s Pacific Northwest, played by Joel Edgerton in what might be the best work of his career.”
