If you want to view paradise, simply check out the way Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet look at each other when they’re surrounded by people.
The actor and the cosmetics mogul quickly became adept at creating a world of their own no matter where they are, be it at nationally televised sporting events, in the middle of Beyoncé‘s silvery Renaissance birthday concert in Los Angeles (the site of their first public appearance together in September 2023) or at the Oscars.
Chalamet has also, incidentally, brought Jenner to the Golden Globes two years in a row.
So, like, they’re pretty out there as a couple now, having made their red carpet debut in May—not at the Met Gala, but still, ’twas glam—and declaring themselves a Knicks superfan-and-his-long-suffering-girlfriend during the NBA play-offs.
But still, they aren’t really talking about each other.
“Privacy is so important to me in life,” Jenner explained to British Vogue for an August 2024 profile. Which, she noted, “feels so good” to have on her terms for a change.
Not that such a sentiment squelched the public’s desire to know more or stopped them from desperately scouring what is visible to the world for clues.
Date night sightings tapered off for awhile when Chalamet got busy playing Bob Dylan in the James Mangold-directed A Complete Unknown, which earned him his second Best Actor Oscar nomination.
Jenner’s appearance at the after-party following the film’s Dec. 11, 2024, Los Angeles premiere was an indicator that they were still going strong in time for Chalamet to be nominated for a Golden Globe for his Dylan-sanctioned performance.
Cue their second consecutive viral Globes outing, featuring sweet moments à deux and Jenner getting a chance to bond with her beau’s costars Elle Fanning and Barbaro.
The Kardashians star also got to appreciate the comedic stylings of the evening’s host NikkiGlaser, who zeroed in on Chalamet for a good-natured riff on his name, featuring a cameo by Adam Sandler.
But with celebrity romances often indecipherable in their early stages, it was unclear at first just how serious Jenner, who’s turning 28 on Aug. 10, and Chalamet, 29, were—or whether they were even more than friends.
Now, however, it’s been more than two years since they were first linked in a romantic fashion (and in regular fashion, as Jenner wore Gaulthier by Chalamet favorite Haider Ackermann to the 2023 Met Gala), and at the 2024 Golden Globes they graduated to the fans-frantically-lip-reading-for-clues stage of their relationship.
Yet that world of pure imagination was only possible because the pair are full-on dating in public, not bothering with any comments or Instagram posts and just letting their PDA-packed outings do the talking.
“I think it just like happened that way,” Jenner—who shares daughter Stormi, 7, and son Aire, 3, with ex-boyfriend Travis Scott—told Harper’s Bazaar in May after she and Chalamet posed for photos at the 70th David di Donatello ceremony in Rome.
But she wasn’t talking about her date.
“Even, recently I was like, ‘I can’t wear another black dress,'” she continued. “And then of course the most perfect, gorgeous Schiaparelli black dress shows up.”
Fashion, it’s always about the fashion. But then again, there can be clues in clothes.
“I don’t know how I feel about that,” Jenner told the New York Times in March 2024 when asked if she had thoughts on the Internet’s assumption her love life was manifesting in some tweaks to her style. “I just don’t want to talk about personal things.”
As for Chalamet, while he knows every move he makes will garner interest—”I can’t say that this stuff doesn’t matter,” he told GQ for its November 2023 cover story, “because my intense fandom has led me to where I am”—he wouldn’t mind being left alone just a bit.
Though he acknowledged the irony of wanting to keep something to himself while dating someone with 393 million Instagram followers. (And he’s hardly an unknown with 19.7 million.)
Referencing a South Park episode that parodied Prince Harry and MeghanMarkle‘s concerns about privacy while simultaneously opening a door into their world via interviews, a docuseries and a best-selling memoir, Chalamet said, “Sometimes, people are going to be hella confused when you say you’re trying to live a private life.”
Though Jenner’s been on reality TV in one form or another since middle school, she has been known to take the occasional break from big reveals.
But while Jenner has yet to call Chalamet by the name of boyfriend (out loud while talking into a recording device, that is), their bond is strong.
Kris Jenner was at the A Complete Unknown party, and has been not-so-subtly shipping her youngest child’s romance with the movie star since she reposted a teaser for his November 2023 Saturday Night Live hosting gig.
More recently, Chalamet proved he’s got the thumbs-up from more than his girlfriend’s mom, exchanging a hug with Kris Jenner’s boyfriend Corey Gamble at a Feb. 27 L.A. Lakers game.
The familial support runs both ways, meanwhile, with Timothée’s sister Pauline Chalamet in the audience for Jenner’s walk down the runway for Coperni during Paris Fashion Week last October.
