Orlando Bloom is getting in on the joke.
After the satirical outlet The Onion shared a fake article on social media about the Pirates of the Caribbean actor on a date with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which is seemingly referencing the rumored romance between his ex Katy Perry and the former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Orlando reacted to the joke.
“Just weeks after announcing his split with fiancée Katy Perry, English actor Orlando Bloom was photographed Friday dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel,” the caption of the August 1 Instagram post read. “’Angela kept Orlando laughing all night—he couldn’t keep his eyes off her!’ said an insider source who spotted the pair sipping wine, slurping oysters, and splitting a decadent piece of chocolate layer cake at a Michelin-starred restaurant.”
In response to the AI-generated pic and hilarious commentary, Orlando gave the outlet a round of applause by dropping a series of clapping emojis in the comments.
Katie and Justin’s romance speculation came just over a month after it was confirmed that she and fiancé Orlando—who share 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove—decided to end their engagement.
“Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s relationship,” their teams told E! News in a July 3 statement, “representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting.”
“They will continue to be seen together as a family,” the statement continued, “as their shared priority is—and always will be—raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”
Weeks later, the “Roar” singer and the politician—who announced his breakup from wife Sophie Grégoire in August 2023—stepped out for a dinner outing at Le Violon restaurant in Montreal.
Soon after, Justin made an appearance at the pop star’s July 20 Lifetimes tour stop in the same city. While watching the show from a special area, as shown in pictures shared to social media, he was all smiles as he leaned against a railing.
Meanwhile, the Lord of the Rings alum proved that he’s taking this new chapter in stride by sharing multiple social media messages on new beginnings.
“Each day is a new beginning,” Orlando wrote on his Instagram Stories in June, quoting Budda. “What we do today is what matters most.”
“The important thing is to take that first step,” he added in a subsequent post, quoting Buddhist leader Daisaku Ikeda. “Bravely overcoming one small fear gives you the courage to take on the next day.”
