France’s First Family is taking legal action.

President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron have filed a defamation lawsuit in the state of Delaware against American podcaster Candace Owens over allegations she made about the couple namely that the First Lady is actually a man, according to the lawsuit which was obtained by E! News. The lawsuit quoted Owens as saying she “would stake [her] entire professional reputation on” the claim.

The lawsuit alleges Owens “used this false statement to promote her independent platform, gain notoriety, and make money,” and that she “disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim in favor of platforming known conspiracy theorists and proven defamers.”

The suit references an eight-part 2025 podcast series Owens created called Becoming Brigitte, in which she alleged the First Lady was born a man and stole another person’s identity before transitioning to become Brigitte.

Further allegations the influencer made on the podcast, per the lawsuit, were that Brigitte and the President are “blood relatives committing incest,” that Mr. Macron was chosen “to be the President of France as part of the CIA-operated MKUltra program or a similar mind-control program,” and that the pair are committing forgery, fraud, and abuses of power to hide “these secrets.”

The lawsuit says Owens’ claims are “demonstrably false” and alleges the 36-year-old “knew they were false when she published them” but did so in “pursuit of fame.”

The Macrons’ lawsuit alleges that Owens was “repeatedly presented with credible, verifiable evidence disproving her claims—including documentation, public records, and direct outreach from the Macrons,” but that instead of “correcting the record, she doubled down.”

The lawsuit accuses Owens of 22 counts of defamation and false light, the latter of which is a category of invasion of privacy where a defendant is “accused of spreading falsehoods about a plaintiff that would be considered objectionable by the average person,” per the Legal Information Institute.

The First Family is seeking actual and presumed damages, punitive and/or exemplary damages, the awarding of all costs, disbursements, fees, and interest as authorized by law and “such other and additional remedies” the Court may deem just and proper, all of an unspecified amount.

The lawsuit also demands a jury trial.

E! News has reached out to the Macron family but has not yet heard back. Owens said she would be addressing the suit on her Candace podcast.

The lawsuit says Owens’ “lies” have caused “tremendous damage” and have “subjected the Macrons to a campaign of global humiliation, turning their lives into fodder for profit-driven lies.”

“Faced with this relentless and unjustified smear campaign,” the suit adds, “the Macrons are left with no choice but to seek relief through this Court to set the record straight, prevent further harm, and hold Defendants accountable for their conduct.”
