Bristol Palin is providing rare insight into her family.
The daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin answered a bunch of fan questions during a recent Instagram Q&A, including if her son Tripp Johnston, 16, is thinking about attending college. However, as Bristol explained, she intends to let him make the best decision for himself.
After a follower asked if her son wants to go to college, Bristol shared that she intends to let him make the best decision for himself.
“I’d never push college,” the 34-year-old wrote over a photo of Tripp—who she shares with ex Levi Johnston—from behind July 17. “‘He wants to work – he already works actually. He’ll go into a trade and will have his hand in some sort of real estate/development I’m sure!”
Bristol—who also shares Sailor Grace, 9, Atlee Bay, 8, with ex Dakota Meyer—had previously revealed that Tripp moved back from Texas, where she lives, to Alaska to finish out his high school years while living with Levi.
“This has been the hardest ‘first day of school’ yet with one of the biggest pieces of my heart missing,” she wrote on Instagram last August. “Tripp has decided to finish out high school in Alaska to be closer to his dad and our entire family.”
The Dancing With the Stars alum went on to express her support and understanding for her son’s choice.
“As hard as it has been to come to grips with his decision – it’s truly not about what I want,” Bristol wrote at the time. “He’s almost 16 years old and that relationship with his dad is a lot more important than my own selfish desires of having him with his mama forever! I can’t talk about it yet without crying, but selfishly praying for a quick year and easy transition for us all.”
The former Teen Mom OG star later shared a few more details on how Tripp told her about his decision to leave Texas.
“He just texted me and was like, ‘Hey Mom, I’m not coming back,’” Bristol recalled during an August 2024 episode of Cheryl Burke’s Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast. “At first I’m like, ‘I’m coming up to Alaska. We’re not doing this.’ I was so mad, so mad.”
“It still is gut wrenching to me,” she went on, “because it’s been just Tripp and I, and then I had my girls, but it’s always been Tripp and I. It’s changed the dynamic of so much.”
At the time, Bristol also expressed interest in getting a second home in Alaska to be able to spend more time with Tripp and the rest of her family there.
“Selfishly, I’m just like, ‘I want him with me forever. He’s my best friend,’” she explained. “My kids are my whole world. But I can’t be selfish in that.”
