For Adam Sandler, working with his kids is a hole in one.
The Saturday Night Livealum reflected on how it feels to work alongside his daughters Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 16—whom he shares with wife Jackie Sandler—on movies, including the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel out on Netflix July 25.
“Oh, my god, you’re just relieved. Once they do it well, nothing feels better as a parent,” Adam told E! News in an exclusive interview airing July 16. “It must be like when you’re the parents of a baseball player and you’re at the game and they get a hit. You just go, ‘Thank God.’ It’s just so much relief.”
Beyond the relief he felt for their great work in the golf movie—which sees Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald reprising their roles, and welcomes newcomers Travis Kelceand Bad Bunny—the Uncut Gems star made sure to not offer unsolicited advice.
“Only if it lends that way, if they ask,” he continued. “But most of the time you’re just happy that they’re feeling good.”
When it comes to “feeling good,” it’s safe to say that Sadie and Sunny—who have joined their dad in his other movies like 2020’s Hubie Halloween and 2023’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah—don’t have to yell, “Fore!”
“[Acting] is something that the two kids love,” Adam explained. “My one daughter studied it in school, and my other daughter studies it while doing high school, and they love it. They talk about it a lot.”
And it’s not just starring in their dad’s movies that excites Sadie and Sunny. In fact, Adam’s frequent costar Drew Barrymore recounted a tender moment of walking in on one of her children and one of Adam’s daughters watching their 2000s rom-com 50 First Dates.
“I was like, ‘Why are you guys watching this?'” Drew shared during a November episode of her eponymous talk show. “‘Don’t you get enough of me and your dad?'”
