Ava Phillippe has an objection to this comparison.
The 25-year-old had a hilariously awkward reaction to a fan’s comment about her and boyfriend Dakota Brubaker‘s “close” resemblance to her parents Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, who were married from 1999 to 2008.
“You guys,” Ava wrote on TikTok June 11, “whaaaaattt.”
In the accompanying video, the model stood in her kitchen with her mouth agape as Dakota—dressed in a black turtleneck and round glasses similar to Ryan’s Cruel Intentions character Sebastian Valmont—inched into frame with an equally perplexed look.
As the musician took off his glasses and shook his head, Ava mouthed, “No, no, no, no, no!”
Unfortunately, other TikTokers still saw it that way.
“Like literal Reese and Ryan,” one user quipped in the comments section, while another wrote, “Can’t unsee it now.”
While this may be the first time Dakota has been likened to Ryan, Ava and Reese have heard many mother-daughter comparisons over the years.
“I love being mistaken for her because it makes me feel so young,” Reese told InStyle in 2021. “I’m so proud of her.”
As for how Ava feels about it? “She really rolls with it,” shared the Legally Blonde alum, who is also mom to son Deacon Phillippe, 21, with Ryan and Tennessee Toth, 12 with ex Jim Toth. “I’m sure it’s not easy looking exactly like your mother.”
In fact, the pair have leaned on Reese’s Big Little Lies costar Zoë Kravitz for advice on how to navigate the chatter about their almost identical looks. As the 49-year-old explained, “Because she and her mother [Lisa Bonet] look exactly alike, so whenever Ava is frustrated, I go, ‘Call Zoë, text Zoë, she knows what to talk about.'”
And for Ryan, 50, he actually thinks his own comparisons to son Deacon are slightly misplaced.
“Obviously, there is a father-son resemblance,” the Shooter star said in 2021 interview with E! News, “but he actually looks a lot more like Reese’s side of the family. Ava looks more like mine.”
Ryan—who also shares 13-year-old daughter Kailani “Kai” Knapp with ex Alexis Knapp—added of the buzz around his older kids’ appearances, “Quite often, the interpretation in the media is that she looks exactly like her mom and he looks exactly like me, but I think we both feel differently about it.”
