The Dawson’s Creek actor and the Queen and Slim actresseach wrote impassioned letters defending their allotted time with their 5-year-old daughter Juno in documents obtained by E! News and included in Joshua’s May 30 motion requesting an emergency custody modification.
“I’m also glad we agree that our shared goal is to provide Juno with as much stability, consistency, and meaningful time with both of us as possible,” Jodie, 38, wrote in a letter sent to Joshua May 23. “I hear and appreciate your point that this is ultimately her time with each of us, and not the other way around. That framing feels important.”
In her letter, Jodie detailed their daughter’s summer schedule, during which she wants Juno to spend five weeks with her in Europe.
The Agency actress—who filed for divorce in October 2023—noted, the time with her daughter will allow Juno, “to enjoy a true sense of continuity and presence – something we both value.”
Joshua, however, expressed concern in his May 26 response to his ex-wife, about an arrangement that would see him going four-weeks without seeing Juno—especially during a period in which Jodie is working in London.
“I think that maximizing that frequent, continuing and meaningful contact should be our guiding light through all of these conversations and planning of parenting time,” he wrote. “Juno needs both of us. Ideally exactly equally.”
The Affair alum also disagreed with Jodie’s request to have their daughter travel with her on location to Morrocco, expressing that he feels they need to have a “meaningful discussion” about any travel arrangements involving Juno—including Jodie’s work schedule, location details and more—before presenting the plans to their 5-year-old.
“If you have specific travel plans for which you intend to include Juno, please let me know now so we can address them ahead of time” the 46-year-old requested, “(and I ask once again that you discuss these things with me before talking about them with Juno to save her confusion or disappointment).”
He added he hopes to “avoid the issues we had last year where you let me know about your travel plans with her only after Juno was on her way to London or already there.”
However, central to Joshua’s concerns over their daughter pertains to her education. In the filing, as well as in his letter to his ex, the Mighty Ducks actor explained his perspective over Juno’s schooling and why he wants her in traditional school as opposed to using a tutor.
“I do not think that on location tutoring could approximate the importance of what Juno has received by attending school and being in a consistent peer environment this year,” he wrote in his letter.” Her social and emotional development (and her academic achievement) this year have been truly extraordinary.”
In addition to on-set tutoring amid her time with Jodie on location, Joshua alleged in his recent filing that Jodie enrolled their daughter in a new school for kindergarten this fall, outside of the 45-minute commute time from his house and without his permission. (He also noted that while his home burned down in the L.A. fires, he was in a nearby rental with plans for the house to be rebuilt by the time she begins first grade.)
“Respondent respectfully requests orders ensuring that the minor child continues attending her present school for the next academic year 2025-2026,” the documents read, “and for the parents’ joint consent to be required for any subsequent school change.”
Amid the continued disagreements over aspects of their daughter’s custody arrangement, the duo, who wed in 2019, finalized their divorce in May, with them being awarded joint legal and physical custody to the parties “with equal timeshares,” through they return to mediation later in June.
