Sam Asghari has always had Britney Spears’ best interest in mind.
Over a year after he and the “Toxic” singer finalized their divorce, the Traitors alum shared insight into why he encouraged Britney to sign a prenup ahead of their June 2022 wedding.
“I wanted her to have a prenup,” Sam told host Jason Tartick on a June 2 episode of the Trading Secrets podcast. “I wanted to make sure she’s protected, because throughout her life, everybody—I don’t know one person that’s ever been in her life that didn’t take advantage of her.”
“It’s very sad,” he added. “I wanted to make sure that I’m the person that don’t do that.”
As for what the prenuptial agreement may have looked like? Well, the 31-year-old is a very firm believer that one person should either get “everything or nothing.”
“Basically, you either have it all because this is all for you—we’re building it for you,” he explained, “or nothing. It’s not like we’re not going to think about half.”
Because when it came to his two-year marriage to Britney, 43, the model emphasized that his desire to “build an empire together” was well-intentioned—despite people online speculating he was “taking advantage” of her.
“I never get mad at the general public or fans or people that are seeing your life from a distance,” he said of the speculation at the time, “especially now that I’m not in a relationship for over two years—or a year and something.”
“Looking from an outside perspective,” Sam noted. “I see there’s an age difference, there’s a fame difference, there’s this, there’s that. But realistically, we met as costars.”
Indeed, the two started dating shortly after he was cast in Britney’s 2016 “Slumber Party” music video.
“I was working alongside her,” Sam recalled. “And that happens in the acting world because everybody’s busy and you’re working on set and you’re spending a lot of time, sometimes more time than your own family.”
“It’s just natural how that works,” he added. “Just like it is in the office. If you’re working in the office, you meet a coworker. There’s always gonna be people that have their own opinions. And I respect that.”
And to further prove his pure intentions within his and Britney’s marriage, Sam—who is not dating Brooke Irvine—went on to recall that he would often pass on lucrative opportunities to be more sensitive to the “Circus” singer, who was under a 13-year conservatorship before it was terminated by a judge in 2021.
“I turned down a few modeling things back then,” he recounted. “It was because it was associated with women, and I wanted to be respectful. It was a very sensitive time and a very sensitive situation I was dealing with.”

“Engagement has always been in the cards for Sam and Britney, without question,” the insider shared with E! News in September. “It’s the direction their relationship has been heading for nearly two years now. It’s always a discussion and it’s not a question of if, it’s when.”
The source explained further, “Things are evidently becoming better for Britney with her conservatorship and she’s never felt this liberated in all aspects of her life. The closer she gets to freedom, the closer she is to seeing all of her dreams become an actual reality. Marrying Sam is high on that list and loving him the way she wants, how she wants, on her own terms.”

Their divorce was finalized in May 2024 and their marital status officially ended on Dec. 2, 2024—Britney’s 43rd birthday.
