Jack Osbourne is reflecting on one of the most difficult moments of his life.

Over a month after his father Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76 July 22, Jack reflected on the moment he learned of the Black Sabbath singer’s passing.

“I woke up in Los Angeles to a knock on my door at around 3:45 in the morning,” Jack explained in a Sept. 3 YouTube video. “Someone’s who has worked for my family for a good 30 years now was knocking on my door and when I looked through my window and saw it was him, I just knew. I knew something bad had happened.”

He was soon delivered the heartbreaking confirmation. As he explained, “I was informed that my father had passed.”

Upon hearing the news, the 39-year-old—one of Ozzy and wife Sharon Osbourne’s three children, along with Aimee Osbourne, 42, and Kelly Osbourne, 40—went through a whirlwind of emotions, especially considering his dad had died in his native England while Jack was over 5,000 miles away.

“So many thoughts,” he recalled. “You go through this feeling sad and frustrated and angry. There’s part of you that’s like, ‘I have to get there right now.’”

But Jack also admitted there was a bit of relief to know his dad was no longer battling Parkinson’s disease.

“There was a level of like, ‘OK, he’s not suffering anymore,’” Jack noted. “He’s not struggling. That is something. I wish he was still here. I wish he was still with us all but he was having a rough go.”

Despite fans taking note of Ozzy’s declining health at his farewell July 5 concert, Jack—dad to four daughters—emphasized that the family hadn’t anticipated saying goodbye to Ozzy so soon.

“No one expected it to happen as quickly as it did and when it did,” Jack added. “It was nowhere on our radar.”

Indeed, just two weeks before the “Crazy Train” singer died, Kelly had shut down speculation that her father was “dying.”

Now working through the unexpected pain of losing his father, Jack shared that seeing a community come together to mourn Ozzy has been comforting.

“As overwhelming as it can be with the outpour of love and people reaching out, it’s also been really validating,” he explained. “My dad was a special guy, and he meant a lot to a lot of people.”
