Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are more than athletic royalty.
The champion gymnast and her NFL player husband set out to be king and queen of fashion’s biggest night as well, hitting the 2025 Met Gala’s midnight-blue carpet in distinct but coordinated looks paying homage to the night’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” (See every stunning look on the May 5 Met Gala carpet.)
And being named to this year’s hosting committee was just another bonding experience for the couple, who wed in 2023.
“I feel like every day we fall more and more in love with each other,” Simone told E!’s Zuri Hall at the May 5 event, “and getting to do opportunities like this is so much fun, and we cherish each and every moment that we get together.”
As for Owens, he can’t help but get extra spring in his step on the field and off when a certain seven-time Olympic gold medalist is around.
“My thing is just being able to support one another,” said the Chicago Bears safety, “and you just realize how much you are in love with each other. And for me, whenever I know my wife’s in the stands, I just play a little bit better, you know? She’s just the extra motivating factor for me.”
They each motivated the other’s Met Gala looks, that’s for sure, with Simone explaining to Zuri that she was going for “fine, dandy and royal” on the carpet.
“She nailed it,” Jonathan said appreciatively, “just wanted to dress like royalty.”
His white suit, styled by Marc Desir with a fur stole and a gleaming Margot McKinney Atlantic pendant, was by Nigerian brothers Deji & Kola—Jonathan “wanted to be cohesive with Simone’s look” and the design duo nailed it—while Simone’s royal-blue sleeveless Harbison Studio minidress with a sharp white collar and cathedral train turned her into a walking work of art.
“I was pretty much the canvas,” she shared. Once the designer had worked his magic, Simone thought, “OK, we’re coming in hot!”
Makeup artist Ashley Stewart used Benefit Cosmetics to give Simone her regal glow and Jessica Paster did the overall styling honors, complete with diamond jewelry by Zales.
And, showing off his glittering walking stick, Jonathan emphasized, “Just really wanted to feel like royalty walking down here.”
In addition to perennial chair Anna Wintour, the evening’s cochairs included Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, father of three-to-be A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, while honorary cochair LeBron James was an 11th-hour scratch from the lineup due to injury.
Grammy winner Doechii, Olympic track star Sha’Carri Richardson, Ayo Edebiri, Spike Lee, WNBA player Angel Reese, Janelle Monaé and Usher were among the stars who joined Simone and Jonathan on the hosting committee.
