Saquon Barkley scored a touchdown with his look at the Met Gala.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ running back arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5 wearing a sleek black tuxedo by Thom Browne. Leaning into the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme and the “Tailored for You” dress code, Saquon—who was styled by Lesus McPhearson—complemented his suit look with a bowtie, black H. Moser & Cie. watch and subtle sequined arm wrap on his left bicep. (See all the stars attending the Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art here.)
Though the NFL star—who previously attended the annual charity gala in 2019, donning a sleek all-black tuxedo, swapping out the pants for shorts—was not joined by his fiancéeAnna Congdon, she celebrated Saquon’s look by posting a behind-the-scenes look of him gretting ready at The Pierre hotel on her Instagram Story.
But while Anna wasn’t there in person, she and the football star are certainly a strong team. Ahead of this year’s first Monday in May, Saquon—who proposed to Anna nearly six months before winning Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs in February—announced his proposal in a pre-Superbowl conference, admitting he was nervous.
“I’m just not good with stuff like that,” Saquon said in the Feb. 4 conference, adding he regretted saying earlier he was more nervous to propose than to play on football’s biggest stage. “I’m a lover boy, but I’m not, like, a clever lover boy.”
And their love story goes way back to Penn State University. While they have kept a lot of details of private life, well, private, they shared they attended Saquon’s Pi Kappa Phi formal together in December 2016. In a post to her Instagram, she cheekily shared, “he’s alright on the field but you should see him on the dance floor,” alongside a picture of them at the event.
In April 2018, they welcomed their daughter Jada Clare Barkley, two days before Saquon was drafted second overall by the New York Giants. Then in September 2022, they welcomed their son Saquon Jr.
Thanks to his family, he never fumbles.
“I can’t be the athlete I am and have the success I have so in my career without the help of her,” Saquon told People in February. “She’s been super helpful and always has my back, not only in football but throughout life there’s a lot that goes on. But as we continue to grow and mature and go through life together, we continue getting closer and continue to get even better.”
