Justin Theroux won’t be running point at this year’s Met Gala.
In fact, as he revealed to Will Marfuggi and Erin Lim Rhodes during the E! @ Poker Face Season Two Premiere livestream event May 1, he’s “going to be out of town, unfortunately.”
But while Justin can’t attend this year’s gala—which will see stars try to embody the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”—he acknowledged the night as one where he can get into shenanigans.
“I haven’t done like Hangover type nights,” he joked. “I mean, normally you get in a little bit of trouble if you’re going to the Met.”
Though he noted the Met Gala itself is not necessarily debaucherous, it’s the after parties where trouble can abound.
“Those kinds of nights can evolve,” the 53-year-old continued. “It’s usually the third destination that gets you in trouble when you go to something really swanky and nice, like a Golden Globes or something like that. Then you go to the after party and think, ‘Okay, this is good.’ The third—that’s where you need to pull the emergency break and be like, ‘Yeah, I need to go home.’”
These days, instead of multiple-location party nights, Justin is enjoying newlywedded bliss, having recently tied the knot with Nicole Brydon Bloom.
“We’re still young in our marriage,” he said. “It’s only been just over a month, so we’re just enjoying it.”
Thankfully, his wedding had no similarities to his experience on Poker Face’s season, to which he teased, “There’s a murder mystery at a wedding.”
And though Justin remained tight-lipped on any additional details, he did hilariously recount how he landed the appearance on the Peacock series, which stars Natasha Lyonne as human lie detector Charlie Cale.
“So, I think this is how it works in Hollywood,” the Leftovers alum joked, “Natasha calls you and goes, ‘Hey, do you want to come do my show?’ She mistakenly sent me a wrong episode. I was like, ‘Yeah, I love it. Of course I’ll come, Natasha, let’s do it.’”
He continued, “And then she said, ‘Oh, wait a minute, that’s not the episode. Sorry, sent you the wrong episode.’ Sent me the next episode, And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll do that one, too.’”
