B.J. Novak has found his BFF soup snake in Mindy Kaling.

Twenty years after meeting on the set of The Office, the former costars remain closer than ever. In fact, they often hang out together, with B.J. describing Mindy as “way up there” on his list of best friends.

“She is just so funny and interesting,” B.J. exclusively told Erin Lim Rhodes and Will Marfuggi during the E! @ Poker Face Season Two Premiere livestream event May 1, “that I’ll talk to her as long as she’ll talk to me.”

He even noted that he spoke to Mindy about his part on the Peacock series.

“I was driving somewhere with my friend Mindy Kaling—no big deal—and I told her last night about the show,” B.J. shared. “I described my character and we got to the to the restaurant before I could finish.”

He continued, “So, I can’t even describe my role because it’s so complicated, but it was really, really cool.”

“The show is so stand-alone and episodic that I got one of the most perfect scripts I’d ever been sent,” B.J. raved. “The cast is so extraordinary—the main cast, the guest cast, the directors. Tony Tost is incredible as a showrunner.”

Describing his episode as “beautiful,” the comedian added of the favorite part of his cameo, “It was like a big, long, chewy monologue and a half.”

“Just give me a long line,” he quipped, “and I’m out the door.”
