Tony Nominations 2025: Denzel Washington, Kieran Culkin and More Snubs and Surprises

Watch:2025 Tony Award Nominations: George Clooney, Sadie Sink, Sarah Snook and More

The curtain has gone up on this year’s Tony Award nominations.

And while there are the stars celebrating their nominations—such as Sunset Boulevard’s Nicole Scherzinger, Good Night, and Good Luck’s George Clooney as well as John Proctor is the Villain’s Sadie Sink—there, as always, a number of stars and shows who have been notably left off the list of nominees.

Perhaps most prominent among the snubs are household names Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, who did not receive nods for their roles in the revival of William Shakespeare’s Othello. In fact, the entire production was shut out of the Tonys, not earning a single nomination.

Similarly, while Redwood marked a huge return to Broadway for veteran Idina Menzel—best known, among a storied career, for originating Wicked’s Elphaba—as both she and the musical as a whole didn’t receive nominations.

Another disappointment comes for Kieran Culkin, who has been generating buzz for his performance in Glengarry Glen Ross. If he’d been nominated, the 42-year-old would have been on his way to earning what is called the Triple Crown of acting: earning a Tony, Emmy and Academy Award.

And, if he’d been nominated and then won at the Tony’s—after just being awarded an Oscar for his work in A Real Pain—Kieran would have set a record for earning the Triple Crown in just 18 months. (But while Kieran won’t be nominated this year, he can cheer on his fellow Succession alum Sarah Snook who earned a nod for her work in The Picture of Dorian Gray.)
