‘The Chronology of Water’ Star Imogen Poots to Receive Denver Film’s Excellence in Acting Award

Imogen Poots will be swimming her way to honors from the Denver Film Festival.

The star of Kristen Stewart’s feature directorial debut The Chronology of Water has been selected to receive an excellence in acting award for her performance in the film. The trophy presentation will follow a screening of the film at Denver Botanic Gardens on Nov. 4. Based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir, The Chronology of Water casts the actress as a competitive swimmer who comes to terms with an abusive childhood while navigating self-destructive behavior. The Forge will release the film in December.

For Poots, the honor comes as she’s also poised to star with Tessa Thompson and Nina Hoss in Nia DaCosta’s Hedda, and on the heels of teaming with Brett Goldstein in All of You. Her other credits include Outer Range, The Teacher, I Know This Much is True, The Father, The Art of Self-Defense, Night of Cups and more.

“Imogen Poots has always brought an honesty and intensity to her performances that make her impossible to forget,” said Denver Film Festival artistic director Matthew Campbell. “With The Chronology of Water, she delivers one of her most vulnerable and powerful roles to date. We’re thrilled to recognize her artistry with this year’s Excellence in Acting Award.”

The annual festival is scheduled to launch later this month on Oct. 31 and continue through Nov. 9. As previously announced, Zoey Deutch will receive a rising star award for her performance in Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague; Ben Foster will accept an inaugural Outlaw Award; Charlie Polinger, who directed The Plague, will receive the fest’s breakthrough director prize; and Peggy Ahwesh will be honored with a Stan Brakhage Vision Award.

In other fest news, Katey Rich, Dave Gonzales and Matt Patches of the podcast Fighting in the War Room will appear in-person for a mid-fest interview with Denver Film CEO Kevin Smith and Campbell on Nov. 4. The live interview is set to take place in the lower level of Tattered Cover. More fest info is available here.
