Alan Ritchson faces an unimaginable threat in the trailer for Netflix‘s sci-fi feature War Machine.

The film from writer-director Patrick Hughes launches on the streaming service March 6. Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Blake Richardson, Keiynan Lonsdale and Daniel Webber round out the cast.

War Machine centers on a team of U.S. Army Rangers recruits who stumble upon an unparalleled danger during a training exercise.

The trailer shows Ritchson and his fellow soldiers on the run after their startling discovery. “Whatever that thing is, it’s hunting us, and it won’t stop,” Ritchson says in the footage. “It’s not about us anymore. It’s warning everybody that thing’s coming.”

Hughes helmed the film from a script he co-wrote with James Beaufort. Hughes produces alongside Todd Lieberman, Alexander Young, Greg McLean and Rich Cook. Executive producing is Valerie Bleth Sharp.

Ritchson is known for his titular role on the Amazon series Reacher and for such movies as Playdate and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Hughes previously directed the features The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Man From Toronto. He is set to direct Amazon MGM Studios’ forthcoming film about former Navy SEAL Mike Thornton, which also stars Ritchson.

During a 2024 cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, Ritchson discussed the importance of keeping his career success in perspective.

“I try to keep my eyes fixed on opportunities to serve others,” the actor said at the time. “It’s faith, family, mental health, business practices — all of it is sort of prioritized in the right way that it can work together well in concert.”
