Alex Rodriguez wants to see more passionate baseball players in the league.
And recently, the retired MLB player met a promising candidate. In a video posted on his Instagram Feb. 27, the former New York Yankees hitter shared a sweet interaction with a young baseball player who’s been perfecting his home run skills.
The heartwarming clip sees Alex—who shares daughters Natasha Alexander, 20, and Ella Alexander, 16, with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis—having lunch before the young fan approaches him with an iPad. He said the player, fittingly dressed in his team’s dark blue jersey, wanted to “show him his highlights” and “give him tips on his swing.”
The two then bonded over the young player’s reel. Alex proudly fist bumped him as he made an impressive home run, and even likened the young boy to current Yankees superstar, Aaron Judge. A-Rod then asked him if he wanted to be a future player on his former team, to which the fan excitedly nodded his head ‘yes.’
The player-turned-sports analyst ended the video by giving the young player his ultimate stamp of approval. “You’re gonna be a future big leader,” Alex said while still watching his reel. “I’m calling it right now. That’s my prediction.”
He also gushed over the interaction in the video’s caption, saying, “Seeing the passion in kids like this makes me fall in love with the game of baseball over and over.”
When Alex isn’t sharing his love for the game with fans, he’s focused on quality time with his daughters—and he has the perfect game plan. “We eat dinner every night,” he told E! News in 2023. “I have rules: No phones, no iPads. Let’s just have some old school conversation.”
That tradition extends to the weekends, where they talk candidly about their life during their weekly “breakfast club.” According to Alex, this emphasis on open dialogue has only strengthened their relationship.
“We review it and whatever we’re talking about stays there,” he continued. “Because I’ve been so honest with them, they’ve given it right back to me—and that’s pretty cool. You can’t BS your children.”
