Amy Madigan to Receive Top Honor From Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild

Amy Madigan will receive the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild’s (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706) Distinguished Artisan Award at the 13th Annual MUAHS Awards on Feb. 14.

The union’s top honor is presented annually to an entertainer “whose consistent collaboration with Local 706 Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists has richly enhanced and created memorable characters throughout their career.” Madigan, who received an Oscar, Golden Globe and Actor Award nomination for her supporting role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons, joins a long list of esteemed actors who’ve previously received the MUAHS Distinguished Artisan Award, including Allison Janney, Annette Bening, Johnny Depp, Guillermo Del Toro, Ryan Murphy, Melissa McCarthy, Sir Patrick Stewart, Eddie Murphy and Gary Oldman.

“Amy Madigan is a wonderfully talented actress with a storied career portraying a wide range of characters,” Julie Socash, president of MUAHS, IATSE Local 706, said in a news release. “She is celebrated for collaborating with her makeup and hairstyling team to create an iconic look in Weapons — one that will be remembered and replicated for years to come. Her performances continue to elevate the art of character transformation.”

Madigan’s transformation into Aunt Gladys in the Zach Cregger horror, which grossed more than $269 million at the box office worldwide, earned the actress her second Academy Award nomination. Madigan was first nominated for best supporting actress 40 years ago for her portrayal of Sunny Mackenzie-Sobel in the 1985 Buddy York drama Twice in a Lifetime.

The MUAHS Awards will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. As previously announced, Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning make-up artist Greg Nelson and Oscar-nominated hair stylist Judy Alexander Cory will each receive Lifetime Achievement Awards. Emmy-nominated make-up artist Michael Johnston will also be presented with the Vanguard Award. See the full list of nominees here.
