Armie Hammer, William H. Macy and Thomas Jane lead the trailer for the forthcoming Western feature Frontier Crucible.
Well Go USA Entertainment is set to release director Travis Mills’ period thriller movie Dec. 5. Myles Clohessy, Mary Stickley, Eli Brown, Ryan Masson, Zane Holtz and Eddie Spears round out the cast.
Frontier Crucible centers on Merrick Beckford, who finds himself in a fight for survival after he and three dangerous outlaws accidentally kill an Apache scout. Dallas Sonnier, David Guglielmo, Lillian Campbell and Preston Poulter produce the indie film project that is based on Harry Whittington’s 1961 novel, Desert Stake-Out.
“People need medical supplies down south, and you know how to navigate the Apache,” Macy explains in the trailer. “You could do it — alone, unaccompanied.”
The Hollywood Reporter first reported on Hammer’s casting in the project last October. “I’ve built a career producing masculine indie movies, such as Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, Dragged Across Concrete, Muzzle and The Standoff at Sparrow Creek and worked with legendary actors including Kurt Russell, Vince Vaughn, Mel Gibson, Jason Sudeikis, Guy Pearce, Aaron Eckhart, Don Johnson, Stephen Lang, James Badge Dale, Steve Austin and more,” Sonnier said in a statement at the time. “And, now, I’m pumped to work with Armie Hammer on Frontier Crucible.”
Hammer’s career took a hit after a number of sexual misconduct allegations surfaced in 2021, leading the actor to get dropped by agency WME and replaced in multiple projects. Hammer has stated that the relationships were consensual but admitted he was emotionally abusive to the women. Frontier Crucible marks the actor’s first released film since 20th Century Studios’ Death on the Nile hit theaters in early 2022.
In an interview with THR that published in February, Hammer said he was happy with his current career path. “I don’t need to be back making big studio films,” the star said at the time. “I’m happy just making fun, smaller movies for now.”
