Austin Butler is sharing his veldá.
The Elvis alum recently reflected on a trip to Puerto Rico to see Bad Bunny’s No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency, and admitted he may have bit off more than he could chew when it came to taking a marijuana edible.
“Somebody gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought that was a good idea at the time,” Austin explained during an August 12 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “Then it turns out we’re in like, a casita, a house that is basically the second stage. He comes and he’s on that stage at one point.”
And the 33-year-old admitted that while he’s in the entertainment industry, he wasn’t prepared to be part of the “Monaco” singer’s (real name Benito Ocasio) performance.
“So, suddenly I’m on stage with Bad Bunny,” Austin recalled. “And the edible is working. So it’s like my brain is in two movies. One is like, ‘Benito and I had lunch earlier in the day, I’m just like, so proud of him.’”
Austin continued, “I’m watching him going like, ‘Oh my god, look how much you mean to everyone here.’ I’m like, falling in love with Puerto Rican culture and the dancing and everybody is so sexy and amazing.”
But Austin wasn’t feeling too hot himself.
“Then, the other part of me is like, ‘Don’t dance, because you’ll take attention away from him. This is his moment.’ So I’m like, ‘hide,’ my body is saying ‘hide,’ but then the music is so good and it’s like in my bones at that point.”
Indeed, Austin explained that his juxtaposing feelings led to extremely awkward dancing—that naturally went viral.
“I’m like, wanting to dance,” the Disney alum explained. “But then the other voice inside is saying, ‘Don’t take attention away,’ so I ended up just swaying my hips while crossing my arms. For whatever reason every time I uncrossed my arms I felt like I was drawing attention to myself.”
Of course, Austin isn’t the only star to have a less-than-stellar experience with getting high. In fact, Daisy Edgar Jones had an even worse debacle when she tried weed for the first time during a trip to Amsterdam.
“I had paranoid thoughts where I thought I was never going to stop laughing,” Daisy shared during an appearance on Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain last July. “I think I passed out, and I came to in an ambulance.”
And from there, the Normal People actress decided to can it with the cannabis. As she put it, “From then on, I was like, ‘This isn’t for me.’”
