On May 14, Netflix announced that the show has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season.
What’s more, its highly anticipated season four—which will center around the blossoming romance between Benedict (played by Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha)—is set to premiere in 2026.
The streamer has not confirmed whose love story will take center stage in seasons five and six. However, the fifth book from Julia Quinn‘s Bridgerton series revolves around Eloise (portrayed by Claudia Jessie on the show), while the sixth novel follows Francesca (Hannah Dodd).
For now, the Ton will have its eyes on Bendict and Sophie.
“The storyline is a bit of a twist on ‘Cinderella,'” Luke teased of season four in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum published May 14. “You remember being told those stories as a child—the magic and the romance of them. It’s really exciting to have that weaved into the world that we know of Bridgerton.”
He continued, “What’s striking about season four is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale—the romance of it—and the actual reality of the world.
“Both are true,” he added. “You have to hold both of them—the romance and the reality—in your hand. In its best version, ‘true love’ happens in the middle of that.”
And while his onscreen love Yerin is a newcomer to the series, season four will boast plenty of familiar faces, including season three favorites Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton).
“We’ve seen all the twists and turns to the drama of their relationship last season,” Luke told E! News in February. “You don’t often see it on screen of just two people living happily ever after—and just that being what it.”
He added of the upcoming season, “It’s really interesting. It’s very different this year.”
