Brit List 2025 Unveiled: Welsh Hiking Horror Comedy Tops List of Unproduced Film, TV Scripts

The Brit List, the platform for emerging British screenwriting talent, has unveiled its 2025 lineup of the best unproduced film and TV scripts.

Established in 2007, The Brit List‘s mission is to “showcases outstanding British voices, with its annual list compiled from recommendations by British production companies, talent agencies, sales companies, financiers, distributors, and broadcasters. As such, “the feature and television scripts that have made it onto this year’s list offer a barometer of industry tastes and trends,” the Brit List team highlighted. “In recent years, The Brit List has represented a near parity of male and female writers, and in this edition, half of the writers come from historically underrepresented voices.”

This year, a minimum of seven recommendations was needed for inclusion, with 15 scripts from 16 writers making the 2025 cut.

Topping the list is Don’t Even Go There by Robert Cawsey, whose synopsis reads: “A family hiking trip in Wales, intended to bring Will and his estranged parents closer, goes horribly wrong when an ancient monster is unleashed, seeking revenge on the locals.”

The second-ranked script comes from Blake Ritson, known for portraying Oscar Van Rijn in The Gilded Age, and his brother Dylan. Their P.O.V is set in “a dystopian world where state-issued glasses control everyone’s outlook on life,” according to a plot summary.

The third spot is held by Discretion by Dylan Brady, the actor who portrayed Neek in the second season of Andor. The story revolves around a struggling actor who is offered a job by a nannying high-flying producer and her movie star husband.

“In this year’s list, we have a strong collection of unique voices that take us into fresh, bold worlds,” said Brit List founder and director Alexandra Arlango. “Interestingly, this year there is a high number of scripts in the sci-fi and horror genre, but these are balanced with a higher number of scripts that lean into comedy. One striking difference we have seen across the scripts that made it onto The Brit List 2025 and indeed the majority of the 200 script recommendations we had this year, is how many of them have yet to attach a production company. This is surely a reflection of the challenging times the film and TV industries are currently facing and makes it more important than ever that we, as an industry, continue to take risks and have the conviction to back brilliant storytelling.”

Nearly one in four of the feature scripts that have appeared on The Brit List have gone on to be produced, including The King’s Speech, Paddington, and The Favourite, according to the Brit List team.

The writers on the Brit List 2025, supported by Audible and the Film Distributors’ Association, will have the opportunity to attend a six-month program designed to help them in their careers via weekly seminars featuring industry guest speakers, including buyers, producers, and showrunners, as well as a roster of specialists in such fields as personal finance, mental health, pitching techniques, and personal branding.
