Set in 1870 Wisconsin, Dara Van Dusen’s Berlin-bowing first feature is a revisionist Western based on Stewart O’Nan’s novella.
On the TV side, both ‘Forever’ and ‘Mr Loverman’ went into the ceremony with four nominations, the same as ‘Adolescence,’ which swept its categories, but went home empty-handed.
During her second presenting appearance at the ceremony, the ‘Hacks’ star joked that “the reason I’m back is they told me you’re actually not allowed to use the money however you see fit on the last grant.”
The Netflix film won best feature at the awards ceremony on Sunday, as well as best director and best cinematography.
Bentley won the best director award at the awards show on Sunday.
Accepting the award for best lead performance, the actress added, “I’m from Australia, and it’s really all independent film there.”
“I want to thank everyone who was willing to look stupid and put even just a sliver of themselves on the line to legitimize all these new filmmakers here tonight,” Russell said at the awards ceremony on Sunday.
The show is not taking place in Santa Monica for the first time since 1994.
“It may feel impossible to see the light right now, but I’m deeply grateful to all of you for helping us understand who we are in the midst of chaos,” the former ‘SNL’ star said.
