To Charlize Theron, the online dating scene is drearier than the Wasteland.
Indeed, the Mad Max: Fury Road actor shared insight into her love life, including how she didn’t have the best swiping experience on the popular celebrity dating app Raya.
“I am, [but] I don’t do anything with it,” Charlize told Andy Cohen in a June 26 episode of Watch What Happens Live. “A friend put me on it, I went on two dates and then I kind of…it’s like, every guy has a Burning Man picture, and they’re a CEO of like, nothing. Or like a fitness…”
Though those careers seem to be the norm on there, the 49-year-old noted it’s even more frustrating—furiosa, even—when a suitor blatantly lies about their interests.
“Then you meet with them and they’re not [a CEO],” the Atomic Blonde star continued. “They just say it up front. Well, why did you put that on your thing?! No, I don’t like it.”
This isn’t the first time Charlize—mom to daughters Jackson, 11, and August, 9—has candidly spoke about her dating life. In fact, the Oscar winner previously revealed that she’s sacrificed her feelings in order to make certain romances work in the past.
“I was very fortunate that I was raised by this very strong mom,” she explained on The Drew Barrymore Show in January 2021. “There’s this strength that always came with growing up around her. And yet, in my 20s and early 30s, I tried to make myself smaller in a relationship because you think that’s ultimately the problem.”
Now, Charlize defines those moments as “ridiculous,” as she’s learned to “live her full potential.” And with her embracing her voice, she’s no longer entertaining unhealthy relationships.
“You gotta come with a lot of game,” she continued. “The kind of game that’s like, ‘My life is really good, so you better be able to bring that and maybe better because I won’t accept anything less.’ My life with my children and my incredible adopted family that I have around me, I don’t long for that much.”
