Cheryl Hines is looking back on her recent visit to The View while promoting her memoir, Unscripted.
During her Oct. 14 appearance on the ABC talk show, Hines was asked about her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his decision to support Trump’s candidacy, her thoughts on his stance on vaccines and his medical qualifications to be the Department of Health and Human Services head.
Reflecting on the visit, Hines says she had hoped it was going to be more of a “personal” conversation.
While joining the Hot Mics with Billy Bush podcast, Bush asked Hines what it was like to go on The View and if it was what she expected.
“Mmm-hmm,” Hines said while nodding her head, before adding, “I was actually hoping it was going to be more personal on The View, but it was what it was.”
“They just wanted to grill me about Bobby,” Hines said of hosts Sunny Hostin, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin.
When Bush asked if anyone surprised her in a good way, because she thought going into it that they were going to be a “difficult person,” Hines said, “I didn’t think anybody would be difficult, but I wasn’t sure.”
While on her press tour to promote her memoir, Bush asked if Hines can “tell when someone hasn’t read your book,” to which she admitted, “Yes.”
“I mean, I don’t think the ladies on The View asked me one question about my book,” she said. “But, you know, that’s okay.”
Hines and Kennedy have been married since 2014. Hines admitted on The View that Kennedy’s decision to end his campaign for president and endorse Trump during the last election was a “very difficult” one. However, she said, “at the end of the day, President Trump and Bobby sat down and talked, and yes, they did have a lot of common goals.”
When Hostin later questioned Hines over the qualifications of RFK Jr. to be the HHS head and claimed he “spread a lot of misinformation, a lot of chaos, a lot of confusion” which is “a dangerous thing,” Hines attempted to respond to the allegations of misinformation. After she was quickly interrupted by Hostin, Hines then interjected, “May I? May I finish?”
The conversation ended with co-host Whoopi Goldberg thanking Hines for joining them before inviting her to return to the TV show. “Really?” Hines replied with a surprised facial expression.
